| Old North Yorkshire Photos 2 |
Here we have some more old North Yorkshire photos.
Stape Show was held at the magnificent Keldy Castle in the early 1900's. This photo is from the 1910 show and what a grand show it must have been. Everyone seems to be dressed in their finery so this show must have been quite an occasion in the local calendar.
This massive bonfire was part of a Silver Jubilee celebration from the year 1935. The site was at the Beacon Hill, Pickering. I am not sure what the celebration was? I would have thought that the tent at the right hand side was a little too close for comfort.
In 1924 a Garden Fete was held at "Barmoor", Hutton le Hole on the 2nd August. It look like it was a cold or wet day when you see what the people are wearing.
Helmsley Market Place looked like this in 1904. It probably has not changed much. I wonder if it was a market day?
The photo below is the gathering of the harvest at Rosedale. Early 1900's is the likely date. If you look to the top left hand corner you can see Rosedale Chimney.
Rosedale Chimney was demolished in the 1970's. What a fantastic landmark it was and very much missed by the locals. It would be great if it could be rebuilt with some lottery money?
