Cropton is located on the southern edge of the North Yorkshire moors. This road is the dividing line for the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Part of Cropton is within the National Park. A lovely feature of the park is the moorland and the best time to see it is August, when the heather changes the moors into a gorgeous purple carpet.

The building on the right of this photo used to belong the local blacksmith. Horses were used by the local farmers and the blacksmith provided an essential service to the villagers.

This is a view of Appleton-le-Moors village from a walk near Cropton. The church steeple, in the middle of the photo, is a well known local landmark. You can walk from Cropton to Appleton-le-Moors in about an hour. There is a lovely pub in Appleton-le-Moors called the Moors Inn. Good timing will let you enjoy an excellent lunch there!

This painting of the moors was done by the late Doreen Roberts. This painting currently hangs in Cropton village hall. Bring your paintbrush with you and have a go at painting the lovely scenery around this area!
