Cropton is a small village at the southern edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It is an excellent location for reaching many of the local attractions. Whitby, Scarborough, Castle Howard and York are all driveable within an hour. Flamingo Land Zoo,
Ryedale Folk Museum, Hutton-le-Hole and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway are very close by. On the door step is the popular Cropton Brewery, where you can do a tour of the brewery and sample of the many excellent ales that are produced on the premises.
The photos pages are a few local photos, with a few descriptions of local landmarks. If you visit or
stay near Cropton it may help you enjoy your
stay!
We feature local coming events and a few reports about local news in the village. The villagers are more than delighted to welcome visitors to any of the published events. The local village hall, the venue for most of the events, has recently been refurbished and is second to none in the area.

Feet were soon tapping to their music and they played numbers from the four Groanbox Boys albums. They are very talented musicians and were very welcome visitors to the village.
ANGEL OF THE MOORS
1st April - After much negotiation Cropton has been chosen as the site for the new 'Angel of the Moors'. This new angel will welcome everyone to the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park. We are pleased to announce that the Angel will be based on our very own 'Bob Buttercup'. Bob will tower over the wonderful countryside, with arms outstretched and greet visitors to the park. This imposing monument will be slightly bigger than the 'Angel of the North'. What an honour for Bob and the village!

The first meeting of the year was well attended. New information has been forthcoming and updates have been received on the Cropton Murder of 1872 & information from former Croptonian, Robbie Johnson, from Perth, Australia. Included in the presentation was an interesting booklet about the local school from Gordon Feaster. Hopefully I will be able to upload some new photos from the meeting.
CONTACTED FROM AUSTRALIA
This week we were contacted by Robert (Robbie) Johnson from Australia. Robbie used to live in the village during the 1930's, before spending the early war years living at Keldy Castle with his family. He has helped with some names from a
1937 children's photo. Robbie moved permanently to Australia in the 1950's but thanks to the internet he has got in touch with us. Please don't hesitate to
Contact Us if you have any information about the photos on this site.
Please contact Sue Coombes from the Heritage Group, if you have any interesting photos of the village. Join the group for their regular meetings in the village hall. Everyone is very welcome to come along.
